ISP Platforms
Maximum subscriber capacity reflects average storage allotment of 100MB per subscriber for web and e-mail combined. The design you choose should be based on the number of subscribers you expect to have in the first year or two. Remote access capacity (e.g., modems) can easily be added as needed, but upgrading the network is a bit more complicated so you will probably want to avoid this while you are working out your ISP's operating procedures. Subscriber capacity is impossible to accurately define due to the many unique factors of an ISP. The demographics of your subscriber base could result in higher or lower bandwidth usage and, thus, affect the suitable subscriber capacity. In developing countries where slow speeds are common, the number of subscribers could be significantly increased. Estimates assume 3% instantaneous demand, 50kbps dial-up speed, 1Mbps broadband speed, 20% http traffic, and 30% proxy efficiency. |
